The Benefits of Healthy Beef Developed On Grass Only
Naturally Better
At Walnut Grove Farm we raise genetically selected Herefords on highly improved pastures of annual and perennial grasses intermixed with legumes while paying close attention to maintaining in our cattle the genetics governing tender beef, moderate body size and early maturity.
These cattle are raised free of stress, never fed grain, never given hormones or antibiotics. They drink clean water from water tanks—not ponds.
Our pasture grasses are improved naturally by these cattle as they graze from pasture to pasture.
Good For You
The long association of cardiovascular disease with eating beef is not related to the beef animal, but to the beef animals’ diet. Beef developed on grass only, has many natural advantages over today’s grain-fed beef. More than 20 years ago, science discovered the importance to our health of a one-to-one ratio (1:1) between the “fatty” acids, Omega 3 and Omega 6, both found in beef. Omega 3 helps blood to flow and Omega 6 helps blood to clot. Omega 3 is produced in leaves. Omega 6 is produced in seeds. When the diet of beef cattle is based on green plants, the ratio of Omega 3 to Omega 6 is one-to-one. If their diet is based on corn, the ratio is ten-to-one (10:1).
More Beta-carotene and Vitamin E
Our body uses Beta-carotene to make Vitamin A—essential for eye health and our immune system. Beef developed on grass only, has triple the Beta-carotene found in grain-fed beef.
Vitamin E is a main catalyst in the prevention of disease. University studies show grasses and clovers have twenty times more Vitamin E than corn. There is no cure for cancer yet, but prevention works.
A majority of the beef, chickens, eggs, milk and pork we consume are produced on factory farms designed to maximize the volume produced from a confined space. A gain in quantity, but a loss in quality.
